Sutter Health's Net Income Spikes 16% in 2012

Net income at Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health in fiscal year 2012 jumped to $735 million — a 15.9 percent increase from 2011.

Sutter Health, which recently released its FY 2012 financials, said its boost in profit was partially due to $94 million in supplemental payments from California due to previous years of underpayments for Medicaid patients.

The 24-hospital system's revenue last year also increased to $9.56 billion, a 5.3 percent surge from FY 2011. Operating income totaled $549 million, while investment income fell to $137 million.
