Texas Natural Meats recalling 500 pounds of beef due to E. coli

Texas Natural Meats is recalling nearly 500 pounds of frozen ground beef that tested positive for E. coli O103 on June 19, according to Food Safety News.

The recalled beef, labeled "Green Fields Farms Rogers Texas Ground Beef," was frozen a year ago. This sparked some concern among the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service due to the expiration date — 2020 — being over two years away.

"FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers' freezers," the recall notice posted shortly after midnight June 20 states. "Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase."

The recall notice provided by the FSIS did not indicate any reported illnesses connected to the recalled hamburger.
