The National Patient Safety Foundation has published an online course to help teach health professionals about the practice of patient blood management.
PBM is the scientific use of safe and effective medical and surgical techniques designed to minimize and manage anemia and decrease bleeding in an effort to improve patient outcomes.
The new NPSF education module provides information and resources on:
- The history of blood transfusion
- Safety implications of blood transfusion
- Clinical principles of patient blood management
- Strategies for establishing a patient blood management program
This course is appropriate for physicians, nurses, healthcare executives, laboratory professionals and quality and risk professionals.
"With this educational module, we hope to see more health professionals putting these strategies into practice, which in turn can help lead to safer care," said Tejal Gandhi, MD, the president and CEO of NPSF.
