Irvine, Calif.-based UCI Health opened its 52-bed rehabilitation hospital.
The 68,000-square-foot freestanding UCI Health-Irvine Rehabilitation Hospital was developed through a joint venture partnership with Lifepoint Rehabilitation, according to an Aug. 8 system news release. It features private rooms, a state-of-the-art brain injury unit, a large gym, a simulated car and mock kitchen, and a fourth-floor outdoor courtyard.
The hospital will also house the county’s first dedicated inpatient cancer rehabilitation hospital unit, which will open at a later date. The unit will be led by cancer rehabilitation physicians who will work closely with cancer specialists to provide supportive oncology therapies.
The rehab hospital will serve patients transitioning from UCI Health-Orange, UCI Health-Irvine and other hospitals in the region.
