Newark, Del.-based Christiana Care Health System signed a value-based agreement with Medicaid managed care plan AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware, under which providers' payment will be tied to Medicaid beneficiaries' health outcomes.
Under the deal, reimbursement for Christiana Care providers will be linked to seven performance metrics aimed at improving quality and cutting costs. Most of the performance measures, which include 30-day hospital readmission rates, diabetes care and cancer screenings, come from the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set.
The partnership, which is retroactive to January 2018, will start with a data collection period for the organizations to establish baseline metrics.
AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware manages Medicaid benefits for more than 50,000 residents.
