Providence Hospital, in Washington, D.C., has named Amy Freeman its new president and CEO, effective March 22.
Ms. Freeman comes to Providence from Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, where she spent 17 years, most recently as executive vice president and senior vice president of patient care services, according to a press release from the hospital.
Providence is a 408-bed community teaching hospital that is part of Ascension Health. Ms. Freeman, who began her nursing career more than 30 years ago at Providence, replaces Julius D. Spears Jr., who left in September to transfer to Ascension's health advocacy office in the district.
In her new role, Ms. Freeman will oversee Providence Hospital, Carroll Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and primary-care centers in the district and Maryland. She will also have responsibility for a prenatal and obstetrical care program, a behavioral health treatment program, and senior wellness centers.
Freeman received a Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from The Catholic University of America.
