Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) has said he will lift his hold on the nomination of Marilyn Tavenner, President Barack Obama's nomination for CMS administrator, according to a report from The Hill.
Sen. Harkin's hold late last month was a roadblock to Ms. Tavenner's nomination, according to the report. The senator based his hold on disapproval with how the administration was using a fund for prevention and public health grants.
Specifically, the administration decided to take $332 million from those grants to help fund health insurance exchanges after Republicans denied a request for $949 million in additional funding for those exchange efforts in March.
Yesterday, the senator said Ms. Tavenner is "very well qualified" for the CMS administrator role, according to the report.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has said it is unclear when the Senate would vote on Ms. Tavenner's nomination. If Ms. Tavenner is approved by the Senate, she would be the first confirmed CMS administrator since 2006.
