A former supervisor in the claims department at Pittsburgh-based UPMC has received a 21-month prison sentence for mail fraud and healthcare fraud offenses, according to the Department of Justice.
The former supervisor, Francine Ann Priestas, was named as the sole defendant in an 11-count indictment in June. In September of last year, she pleaded guilty to mail fraud charges in connection with a scheme that involved submitting 156 false billing statements on the UPMC system and receiving payments totaling more than $184,835.
In addition to her prison sentence, Ms. Priestas was ordered to pay $184,835 in restitution, according to the DOJ.
