The number of hospitals that outsource coding and clinical documentation services is expected to grow significantly before next year's transition to ICD-10, according to a recent survey from Black Book.
Currently, about a quarter of hospitals outsource clinical documentation review and auditing services. By the Oct. 1, 2015 transition date, about 71 percent of hospitals are expected to contract out for these services, according to the survey.
Additionally, the number of hospitals outsourcing coding services is expected to grow from 19 percent to 47 percent by the ICD-10 deadline.
Survey results are based on responses from 650 hospital IT and physician leaders.
