Nurses at Penn Highlands DuBois (Pa.) voted against joining the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals, according to WJAC.
The vote, which was 209 to 140, took place last week, the report states. WJAC did not specify nurses' reasoning behind the vote. However, WTAJ reports nurses in support of unionization have said they want improved staffing, among other goals.
In response to the vote, DuBois-based Penn Highlands Healthcare said in a statement to WJAC, "We expect that the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board) will certify the results after the usual seven-day waiting period."
