At an Aug. 13 meeting, the council removed all six members of the nonprofit, city-owned hospital’s board of directors and replaced them with city council members. In addition, the city council ousted its CEO, Michael O’Keefe, effective Aug. 14.
The two-hour meeting was an executive session closed to the public. When Keloland News reached out to Community Memorial’s management partner, Avera Health in Sioux Falls, S.D., the system said it is “working collaboratively with the city council as we have a management agreement (we provide services), but it is their hospital so you should contact the city.”
Keloland News contacted several city officials and did not get a response.
According to Community Memorial’s website, Tom Snyder is the hospital’s interim CEO and administrator. Mr. Snyder also works for Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, S.D., according to the report.
