Lisa Keane, president of the Wayne State University Physician Group, a 2,000-plus member organization in Troy, Mich., is stepping down from her role, the Wayne State University School of Medicine announced Feb. 9.
Here are five things to know about the transition.
1. Jack Sobel, MD, dean of the Detroit-based Wayne State University School of Medicine and chair of the Wayne State University Physician Group, said in a letter to medical school students and faculty Feb. 8 Ms. Keane will transition to "a consulting role in health affairs at WSU and WSUPG."
2. The letter, obtained by Becker's Hospital Review, notes Charles Shanley, MD, will take over as president and CEO of WSUPG, effective March 1. He will also assume the position of vice dean for clinical affairs for the medical school, effective Feb. 1.
3. Dr. Shanley has held a variety of clinical and academic management roles throughout his career at WSU, including residency program director for general surgery and vascular surgery, and chair of the surgical department.
4. He previously served as senior vice president of surgical services and co-medical director of Beaumont Hospital-Royal Oak (Mich.) from 2006 to 2009. He was appointed senior vice president for professional physician services and associate chief medical officer for Southfield, Mich.-based Beaumont Health in 2009. In 2010, he co-founded Medical Engineering Partners, a bioengineering and medical device prototyping firm.
5. Dr. Shanley obtained his medical degree from the WSU School of Medicine in 1987.
