Geisinger taps CMO as interim CEO: 6 things to know

Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger selected Jaewon Ryu, MD, to serve as interim president and CEO, effective Dec. 1.

Here are six things to know:

1. Dr. Ryu is currently executive vice president and CMO at Geisinger, a role he has held since September 2016.

2. As CMO, he oversaw the redesign of the health system’s primary care model and implementation of the Geisinger At Home program.

3. Previously, he served as president of integrated care delivery for Humana.

4. He also has experience as CMO of University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System in Chicago and was a White House Fellow at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

5. Dr. Ryu is a member of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission and serves on the board of directors of MyHealthDirect, a digital care coordination solutions provider.

6. He succeeds David T. Feinberg, MD, who will take on a newly created healthcare leadership role at Google Jan. 3. Dr. Feinberg will work closely with Dr. Ryu to ensure a smooth transition.
