Amita Health names G.Thor Thordarson COO & Dr. Stuart Marcus inaugural chief clinical officer

Arlington Heights, Ill.-based Amita Health appointed G. Thor Thordarson executive vice president and COO and Stuart Marcus, MD, chief clinical officer, a newly created position.

Mr. Thordarson most recently served as president and CEO of La Porte (Ind.) Hospital. He resigned seven months after the hospital had become an affiliate of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems. Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health sold a majority stake in the hospital to CHS. Neither the hospital nor Mr. Thordarson gave any reason for his resignation.

Mr. Thordarson is equipped with 31 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Before La Porte Hospital named him CEO, he served as its vice president, corporate operations.

Dr. Marcus previously served as president and CEO of St. Vincent’s Health Services in Bridgeport, Conn. He has also served as CMO and chairman of the oncology department at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. He focuses on gastrointestinal cancer surgery and helped establish the Elizabeth M. Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care at St. Vincent’s.
