57 hospital, health system executive resignations in 2017 so far

Becker's Hospital Review reported on the following hospital and health system executive resignations in the first half of the year. They are listed below, beginning with the most recent.

1. Sevierville, Tenn.-based LeConte Medical Center's Chief Administrative Officer Jenny Hanson and CNO Jennifer DeBow left their roles.

2. Centennial, Colo.-based Centura Health CEO Gary S. Campbell is leaving his post, effective Sept. 1.

3. Louisville-based KentuckyOne Health President and CEO Ruth Brinkley resigned, effective July 14.

4. Joe Mitchell, RN, president of Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison, Ohio, resigned effective June 16 to take on the CEO role at Acadia General Hospital in Crowley, La.

5. Waukegan, Ill.-based Vista Health System CEO Barbara Martin abruptly stepped down from her role.

6. Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health System eliminated the COO and CMO roles, held by Valerie Gibson and Vivian von Gruenigen, MD, respectively.

7. Portland-based OHSU Healthcare CMO Charles Kilo, MD, announced his resignation.

8. Doug DiVello, president of the University of Vermont Health Network-Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, N.Y., stepped down, effective May 3.

9. Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) Medical Center CEO Jeff Welch left his post for a new position with Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, the medical center's parent.

10. Columbia-based University of Missouri Health Care CFO Brian Steines is leaving for a new role, effective June 30.

11. Vivian Lee, MD, PhD, stepped down from her roles as senior vice president for health sciences, medical school dean and CEO of University of Utah Health Care in Salt Lake City, after a high-profile controversy involving the director of the university's cancer center.

12. Hopewell, Va.-based John Randolph Medical Center CEO Suzanne Jackson left her post to become vice president of urgent care operations with Dallas-based Hospital Corporation of America.

13. Vancouver, Wash.-based PeaceHealth announced the departure of Gary Chiodo, its system vice president of organizational integrity and compliance officer, and Terri Nichols, its system director of risk management.

14. Thomas Tulisiak, MD, president of Cleveland Clinic Medina (Ohio) Hospital, left his post to return to practicing medicine full-time within the Cleveland Clinic Medicine Institute.

15. Wilmington, Del.-based Saint Francis Healthcare President and CEO Brian E. Dietz stepped down.

16. Dayton, Ohio-based Miami Valley Hospital President Mark Shaker departed to pursue new opportunities.

17. Waco, Texas-based Providence Healthcare Network President and CEO Brett Esrock left to serve as CEO of Health First's Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla.

18. Galax, Va.-based Twin County Regional Hospital CEO Jon Applebaum left for a new role as president and COO of Novant Thomasville (N.C.) Medical Center.

19. Texas Medical Center in Houston lost its CEO Robert C. Robbins, MD, to the University of Arizona in Tucson.

20. Webster, Texas-based Bay Area Regional Medical Center CEO Tim Schmidt is leaving his post to focus on his health.

21. Gastonia, N.C.-based CaroMont Health eliminated its chief legal officer role in April, and the move forced Maria Long, who was in the position, to depart.

22. New Brunswick, N.J.-based Saint Peter's Healthcare CEO Ronald Rak left his post.

23. Gastonia, N.C.-based CaroMont Health President and CEO Doug Luckett resigned unexpectedly.

24. Greensburg, Ind.-based Decatur County Memorial Hospital President and CEO Linda Simmons left her post, effective April 3.

25. Scott Wolf, DO, president of Springfield, Mass.-based Mercy Medical Center and its affiliated services, resigned effective March 31.

26. Louisville, Ky.-based Baptist Health CEO Steve Hanson left his post in March.

27. Garry Scheib announced he is leaving his roles as COO of Philadelphia-based University of Pennsylvania Health System and CEO of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

28. Broomfield, Colo.-based SCL Health President and CEO Michael A. Slubowski resigned to become the president and COO of Trinity Health in Novi, Mich.

29. Summit Pacific Medical Center, a critical access hospital in Elma, Wash., announced its CEO Renee Jensen decided not to renew her contract.

30. Henderson, Ky.-based Methodist Hospital President and CEO Gary R. Colberg resigned due to "increasing family responsibilities requiring his full attention."

31. Rapid City (S.D.) Regional Hospital's Interim President Dennis Millirons completed his contract, effective March 16.

32. Sterling (Colo.) Regional MedCenter CEO Jeff Shelton abruptly stepped down.

33. Harrisburg, Pa.-based PinnacleHealth President and CEO Michael Young unexpectedly resigned.

34. Manchester, Iowa-based Regional Medical Center CEO Lon Butikofer resigned after the hospital's board of trustees discovered that Mr. Butikofer had submitted "improper travel expense reimbursement."

35. Karen Fordham, president and CEO of Detroit Medical Center's Huron Valley Sinai Hospital in Commerce, Mich., resigned.

36. Palm Springs, Calif.-based Desert Regional Medical Center CEO Carolyn Caldwell left her post.

37. Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health Chief Legal Officer Paul Gilbert resigned.

38. Anthony Armada, the CEO of Seattle-based Swedish Health Services, resigned in February, just days after a Seattle Times report prompted state regulators to investigate the Swedish Neuroscience Institute on the Cherry Hill campus in Seattle.

39. Silver City, N.M.-based Gila Regional Medical Center Interim CEO Alfredo Ontiveros eliminated the center's COO role, which resulted in Jed Rudd stepping down.

40. Savannah, Ga.-based Memorial Health President and CEO Maggie Gill resigned.

41. Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health System's President and CEO Thomas Malone, MD, resigned after facing significant criticism from physicians and staff.

42. Lewiston-based Central Maine Medical Center's President Tina Legere and Vice President of Nursing and CNO Sharron Chalke, RN, MSN, resigned.

43. Crowley, La.-based Acadia General Hospital CEO Don Trexler left his post, effective March 24.

44. Lebanon, N.H.-based Dartmouth-Hitchcock health system's Chief Human Resources Officer John Malanowski stepped down.

45. New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health's Chief Affiliation Officer Anthony Ferreri departed after more than 20 years working at the health system.

46. Hastings, Neb.-based Mary Lanning Healthcare CMO Michael Skoch, MD, left his post, effective March 31.

47. Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville, N.C., announced CEO Chad French resigned, making him the fourth person to leave the post in four years.

48. Potsdam, N.Y.-based St. Lawrence Health System announced Sergio A. Garcia, vice president and administrative chief of staff, departed.

49. In a move to reorganize its leadership structure, Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services eliminated the CEO position at Sacred Heart Medical Center and Holy Family Hospital, both based in Spokane, Wash. The hospitals' current CEO Alex Jackson departed Feb. 17.

50. Marianna, Fla.-based Jackson Hospital CEO Larry Meese left his role after eight years.

51. Beatrice Community Hospital & Health Center CEO Thomas Sommers resigned.

52. Olympia, Wash.-based Capital Medical Center CEO Jim Geist departed after seven years in the role  to take on the executive vice president and COO roles at Skagit Regional Health in Mt. Vernon, Wash.

53. Larry Dupper, CFO of Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, Colo., left for to serve as CFO at Montrose (Colo.) Memorial Hospital.
