Four health system chief human resources officers recently announced departures from their roles over the span of five days.

It follows 23 CHRO moves Becker’s reported earlier in 2026, including a total of 10 in June and July.

Three CHROs and chief people officers exited their roles for a new health system CHRO role between Aug. 13 and 17, and one CHRO retired.

The moves come as the CHRO seat itself has been in flux industrywide. A 2025 report from executive search firm WittKieffer found nearly 46% of current health system CHROs had assumed their roles within the previous three years, compared with 30% of CEOs at the same organizations. The report also noted the job has expanded well past traditional HR administration, with CHROs increasingly responsible for workforce strategy, culture, succession planning, change management and board engagement — and 9 in 10 reporting directly to the CEO.

Here are the CHRO and chief people officer moves Becker’s covered Aug. 13-17:

1. Gina Cronin plans to exit her role as executive vice president and chief people officer at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., to become senior vice president and CHRO of UChicago Medicine, effective Oct. 19.

2. Dennis Fisher, CHRO of Columbia, Tenn.-based Maury Regional Health, exited his role to become CHRO of Tuscaloosa, Ala.-based DCH Health System.

3. Denver Mitchell exited her role as senior vice president and CHRO of Fayetteville, N.C.-based Cape Fear Valley Health and was named executive vice president and CHRO of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Baptist Health, effective Sept. 1.

4. Anna-Maria Gonzalez Palmer retired as senior vice president and CHRO of Baltimore-based GBMC HealthCare.
