To foster the use of health IT in both countries, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and U.K. Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt have signed a bilateral agreement to share health IT tools, information and best practices.
The collaboration focuses on sharing quality indicators between the countries, expanding data exchange and improving interoperability, encouraging the adoption of electronic health record systems and supporting the health IT market.
"While we have very different health care delivery systems and payment models, we both face similar challenges posed by aging populations, increased levels of comorbid chronic disease and escalating complexity of care delivery and costs," Secretary Sebelius said in a news release. "By working together, we can more effectively take on these challenges, improve the health IT economy and the health of the American and British populations."
