A surgeon at Durham, N.C.-based Duke Health has performed the first surgery using Stryker’s SportSuite Vision application on Apple Vision Pro, a hip arthroscopy.
The FDA granted SportSuite Vision De Novo authorization July 17, making it the first technology authorized for intraoperative use with Apple Vision Pro. The application brings arthroscopic video, Stryker’s HipCheck and HipMap software, and CT imaging into a single spatial computing environment, reducing reliance on the multiple monitors traditionally used in the operating room.
Chad Mather III, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Duke Health and a paid Stryker consultant, performed the first case. Dr. Mather said the platform let him “customize the placement of key clinical information” to fit his workflow while keeping the data within the sterile field, according to a Sept. 1 news release.
Stryker says its products touch more than 150 million patients annually. The FDA authorization positions the company among the first medical device makers to bring spatial computing into live surgical workflows.
