5 recent big tech partnerships in healthcare

As January comes to a close, here are some of the biggest healthcare headlines from big tech companies, including Microsoft and YouTube. Artificial intelligence and cloud computing services dominated news from the companies in January. 

Here are five of the most recently announced partnerships:

  1. Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic announced Jan. 27 that it has chosen Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications to run its business processes, including enterprise resource planning, supply chain management and human resources.

  2. Google announced a partnership with the University of California Santa Cruz Genomics Institute to create an AI-powered method that accelerates genome sequencing data analysis for faster disease detection. 

  3. YouTube has inked a partnership with the New England Journal of Medicine in an attempt to boost access to accurate health information and disseminate public health knowledge. The Journal will have a YouTube channel dedicated to explaining study summaries and findings through creative storytelling. 

  4. Microsoft joined a coalition composed of leading organizations from across the healthcare and life sciences industry focused on providing recommendations, tools and best practices for using AI in healthcare.

  5. Johnson & Johnson inked a deal with Microsoft to help build a cloud-connected software system for its digital surgery solutions. Microsoft will serve as Johnson & Johnson's preferred cloud provider, aiding with linking medical devices and services such as exercise apps that prepare patients for surgery, planning and navigation software and robotically controlled hardware carrying out procedures
