Texas hospital granted Medicare reimbursement extension

Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs, Texas, will continue to receive Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements thanks to a deadline extension to improve targeted deficiencies, according to the Sulphur Springs News-Telegram.

Under the Systems Improvement Agreement signed by HCMH and CMS the hospital will hire a consulting firm in exchange for an extended deadline.

The hospital was notified in October that it was at risk of losing its Medicare and Medicaid funding after CMS found it failed to meet minimum health and safety standards. The hospital originally had until Nov. 6 to correct problems at the facility.

"We've signed our Systems Improvement Agreement and we are in the process now of trying to select a consultant that will be suitable for CMS," HCMH CEO Michael McAndrew said, according to the report. "Other than that, we are continuing on with business."
