A payroll problem that affected some employees’ paychecks has been resolved and was caused by a banking issue, Waukegan, Ill.-based Vista Health System said in a Sept. 21 statement shared with Becker’s.
“Vista Health System previously addressed an issue affecting some employees’ payroll checks,” the statement said. “The matter was identified as a banking issue and has since been resolved.” The system said it remains focused on addressing payroll matters responsibly and communicating directly with employees.
Employees at Vista Medical Center East, the system’s Waukegan hospital, said paper checks issued the week of Sept. 14 were returned by their banks for insufficient funds, and most staff had not been paid as of Sept. 18, Lake and McHenry County Scanner reported. Staff had been receiving paper checks rather than direct deposit for more than a month, employees told the publication. One employee said her check cleared, as did those of most of her co-workers.
Employees at the hospital were also not paid on time in March and April, which the hospital attributed to delays in payroll funding, according to the Scanner. Reno, Nev.-based American Healthcare Systems acquired the hospital in July 2023.
The system named Daisy Rodriguez, MSN, RN, CEO and chief nursing officer in August. System leadership also responded in May to a state lawmaker’s letter raising concerns about payroll disruptions and ambulance diversion at the hospital.
