Allscripts plans to integrate information from various state-regulated electronic prescription drug monitoring programs into its EHR systems through a partnership with Appriss Health.
Appriss Health, a provider of clinical decision support and analytics platforms related to substance use disorder, currently works with nine states to sponsor PDMP integrations for prescribers and pharmacists.
Under the agreement with Allscripts, Appriss Health will integrate its PMP Gateway managed service platform and its NarxCare substance use disorder platform into Allscripts' EHRs, so providers can access PDMP data and related clinical decision support.
With the integration, providers using Allscripts EHRs will no longer need to manually log into each state PDMP website to search for a patient's prescription history.
Allscripts has not set a date for when its integration with Appriss Health will go live. Both companies have been "working aggressively to complete this integration," according to an Allscripts statement.
"Our vision at Allscripts is to build open, interoperable connected communities of care," Tom Langan, CEO of payer and life sciences at Allscripts, said in a news release. "As the opioid crisis grows, changes and continues to devastate the U.S., we are aggressively moving to provide our clinicians with a solution that offers objective information and insights into a patient's risk for drug misuse, abuse, overdose and death, so patients can be provided with the most effective and appropriate care."
