Carthage (N.Y.) Area Hospital and Ogdensburg, N.Y.-based Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center are taking legal action to recover patient data stolen in a September ransomware attack, local news outlet WWNY reported Dec. 28.
So far, the information of 30 patients has been breached, but hospital officials said it could have been more if the IT team hadn't caught onto the hack. The hospital has filed the paperwork to recover some of the stolen data from a server owned by Boston-based Wasabi Technologies.
Ransomware gang LockBit attacked the hospital. The hospitals are working with the FBI to find the hackers.
