Kirkland, Wash.-based EvergreenHealth has received a $100 million philanthropic donation from Dean Weidner, the largest gift in the community-owned health system’s history.
EvergreenHealth will use the gift to accelerate its plans to advance healthcare in the community, expanding access and increasing capacity for future generations, according to a Sept. 28 news release.
The gift will help set in motion plans for a future patient-care tower on EvergreenHealth’s Kirkland campus. It follows 2025 voter approval of increased levy funding for the system.
The gift honors Mr. Weidner, who died in early 2026, and his wife, Ana, who died in 2024. The couple had supported key projects and care improvements at EvergreenHealth since 2019.
“This is an extraordinary act of generosity and a defining milestone for our hospital system and the community we serve,” Ettore Palazzo, MD, CEO of EvergreenHealth, said in the release. “The timing of this gift is meaningful. After the community affirmed its support of EvergreenHealth through the Levy Lid Lift, Dean saw an opportunity to come alongside that trust with this investment in the future of community-owned health care.”
EvergreenHealth comprises two hospitals and a network of primary care practices, urgent care centers, specialty clinics, home care and hospice services, and 24/7 emergency care in Washington’s Kirkland, Monroe and Redmond areas.
