Anesthesia device company Covidien presented clinical findings on the continuous patient monitoring of respiration rate in obese patients during the American Society of Anesthesiologists annual meeting.
Michael Mestek, staff development scientist, presented on whether the respiratory rate derived from the photoplehthysmogram signal is accurate in monitoring obese patients, who are at higher risk of respiratory function abnormalities.
Covidien is also debuting patient monitoring solutions to meet diverse needs throughout all hospital acuity settings, including its new capnography offering through its acquisition of Oridion.
