Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health System has announced plans to explore a strategic partnership with another non-profit healthcare organization.
Summa Health's board authorized a special committee to explore partners who have the ability to advance Summa's clinical enterprise; achieve effective integration; grow its population base; and strengthen its financial position in exchange for a minority interest in the health system.
According to the release, Summa Health has been approached by several health systems that want to partner. Summa intends to begin an exploratory phase, which is expected to last throughout the remainder of 2012.
