The Connecticut Office of Health Care Access has said the certificate of need application for Western Connecticut Health Network, based in Danbury, and Norwalk (Conn.) Hospital to affiliate is complete, and it will now move toward more formal reviews.
Norwalk Hospital and WCHN signed a final deal to affiliate in January, but both organizations have been waiting for regulatory approval to close on the deal. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The resulting merger would create a three-hospital system with 784 beds and would be governed by a single board of directors.
Within the CON application, several community agencies, such as the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce, supported the proposed affiliation between Norwalk Hospital and WCHN.
WCHN and Norwalk Hospital officials are hoping to receive final approval by the end of 2013, according to a Republican-American report.
