Iowa Health System Graduates First Class From Its Physician, Management Leadership Academies

Iowa Health System, based in Des Moines, Iowa, has graduated the first classes of its Physician Leadership Academy and Management Leadership Academy, which launched in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

Thirty-five physicians completed the Physician Leadership Academy, which consists of graduate-level coursework and is accredited by the American College of Physician Executives. Graduates will be well-positioned to be leaders within the organization and to contribute to the strategic direction of the system, according to IHS.

Thirty administrators completed the Management Leadership Academy, which was developed to launch promising clinical and business leaders within the system who will be at the forefront of the system's growth and future success.

"In light of healthcare reform, coordination between management leaders and physician leaders is only going to become more critical to ensure best outcomes for patients," said Iowa Health System president and CEO Bill Leaver in his charge to the graduates. "Compassion must be equipped with the right training in order for a healthcare organization to be most effective."
