CVS Health has entered into new clinical affiliations with health providers from across the nation.
Here are four things to know about the affiliations.
1. The affiliations are with:
- Walnut Creek, Calif.-based John Muir Health
- University of Chicago Medical Center
- Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health
- Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan Health System
2. Through these clinical affiliations, CVS Health will provide prescription and visit information to the participating health systems by enabling communication between its EHR systems. Patients also will still have access to clinical support, medication counseling, chronic disease monitoring and wellness programs at CVS/pharmacy stores and MinuteClinic, the retail medical clinic of CVS Health.
3. Additionally, healthcare providers at participating affiliates will receive data on interventions conducted by CVS pharmacists to improve patients' medication adherence. The affiliation also allows for healthcare providers and MinuteClinic providers to improve coordination of care for patients seen at MinuteClinic locations.
3. Officials said these affiliations will help improve patients' access to high-quality, affordable healthcare services. "We are pleased to work with these exceptional healthcare providers throughout the country to develop collaborative programs that enhance access to patient care, improve health outcomes and lower healthcare costs in the communities they serve," Troyen Brennan, MD, CMO of CVS Health, added in a news release. "By allowing our EHRs and information systems to communicate and share important information about the patients we collectively serve, we will have a more comprehensive view of our patients, which can aid in healthcare decision making and help ensure patients adhere to important medications for chronic diseases."
4. The new affiliations bring the total number of clinical collaborations for CVS Health and MinuteClinic to nearly 70 major U.S. health systems and healthcare providers.
