Lawrence & Memorial in Connecticut Changes Work Status for 22 Employees

Since the beginning of the year, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn., has laid off or reduced the hours of 22 employees, according to a report from The Day.

These workforce reductions are in addition to the hospital's previous layoffs of 22 employees, which were announced in November 2012.

The Food service and occupational health departments were most affected by the recent layoffs, although L+M's wound care center and rehabilitation services were also affected, according to the report.

Three unions at the hospital say the recent layoffs and cuts to work hours are unjustified, as the hospital provided financial information to Rhode Island state officials that shows the hospital is fiscally strong. It is currently bidding to acquire Westerly (R.I.) Hospital.
