Ben Bache-Wiig, MD, has served as president of Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, part of Minneapolis-based Allina Health, since October 2011.
Prior to becoming president of Abbott Northwestern, Dr. Bache-Wiig served as the hospital's vice president of medical affairs.
"He is well known and respected for his intelligence, his diplomatic and leadership skills, his relationships with physicians across the system and his unfailing focus on service to patients and families," Jeff Peterson, former president of Abbott Northwestern, said of Dr. Bache-Wiig in a news release.
Abbott Northwestern has received many accolades under Dr. Bache-Wiig's leadership. For example, the hospital was named on several of Becker's Hospital Review's lists in 2013 — the 100 Great Hospitals in America list, 100 Hospitals With great Neurosurgery and Spine Programs list and the 100 Hospital With Great Heart Programs list, for example.
Dr. Bache Wiig himself was named to Becker's Hospital Review's 2013 list of 100 Leaders of Great Hospitals. Additionally, he has been recognized several times as one of the Minneapolis area's top physicians by Minneapolis/St. Paul magazine.
Dr. Bache-Wiig is board certified in internal medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison and completed his residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
