Michael N. Patterson, MBA, has served as CEO of Fort Morgan-based Colorado Plains Medical Center since 2010. The 50-bed hospital is part of Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Hospitals.
Prior to taking the helm at CPMC, Mr. Patterson served as the hospital's CFO for about five years. He also served as interim CEO of the hospital for a few months before taking on the position permanently.
During his time as an executive at CPMC, Mr. Patterson has directly affected change at the facility. As CFO, he oversaw the start-up of six employed physician practices and was also heavily involved in physician recruiting, signing 10 physicians in three and a half years. As CEO, Mr. Patterson has expanded the Geriatric Behavior Health Unit by four beds and implemented new service lines, such as a sleep lab and a sports medicine clinic. Additionally, he brought in five physician practices in the area to be employed under Colorado Plains Physician Practices.
His success at CPMC hasn't gone unnoticed. In fact, he was recently named CEO of the Year for 2012 by LifePoint, an award presented annually to one of the system's hospital leaders. "In his quiet, self-assured manner, he earns respect. With his honesty, he earns trust. Mike cares, and it shows in his personal, community and professional lives. He is the definition of integrity," Melissa Smits, CPMC's governing board chair, told the Fort Morgan Times after Mr. Patterson received the award.
Mr. Patterson is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He earned his MBA from Utah State University in Logan.
