Michael Murphy has served as president and CEO of Sharp HealthCare in San Diego since June 1996, making him one of the longest-tenured health system CEOs in the nation.
During his tenure at the four-hospital system, Mr. Murphy has helped Sharp focus on The Sharp Experience, which aims to improve patient, employee and physician satisfaction. For instance, in 2013, Becker's Hospital Review named Sharp to its list of 100 Integrated Systems to Know, in part because the system offers Sharp Health Plan, the only commercial health plan based in San Diego, and is also a Pioneer accountable care organization.
Mr. Murphy has served on the board of directors for the State of California Chamber of Commerce and supports multiple community-based health and social service organizations. He is a certified public accountant.
