Larry Goodman, MD, has served as CEO of Rush University Medical Center in Chicago since February 2002, making him one of the longest tenured healthcare CEOs in the country. Dr. Goodman also serves as president of Rush University, president of the Rush System for Health and the principal officer of the Rush board of trustees.
One of Dr. Goodman's major accomplishments as CEO of Rush began in 2006, when he started the "Rush Transformation" project to build new facilities, renovate existing buildings and adopt new technology. "We needed new facilities — a new hospital, a new outpatient facility and more parking," Dr. Goodman told Today's Chicago Woman on why he encouraged the project. The cornerstone of the transformation is Rush's $654 million medical tower, which opened in January 2012, and achieved LEED Gold certification.
Beyond the Rush Transformation project, Dr. Goodman has led Rush University Medical Center to clinical excellence — the hospital has been named to Becker's Hospital Review's 2013 list of 100 Great Hospitals in America and its 2012 lists of 100 Hospitals With Great Neurosurgery and Spine Programs, 100 Hospitals With Great Heart Programs and 100 Hospitals With Great Women's Health Programs, just to name a few of the hospital's many accolades.
Outside of his leadership roles at Rush, Dr. Goodman is a renown clinician, researcher and educator and has authored several published medical articles. He earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor and completed his residency at Rush University Medical Center.
