In total, 172 hospitals have been recognized HIMSS Analytics' Stage 7 Award, the highest level of electronic medical record progress a hospital or health system can attain.
Many of these 172 hospitals are part of larger health systems. The following four health systems boast the largest numbers of stage 7 hospitals:
Kaiser Permanente (Oakland, Calif.): 37 hospitals
Banner Health (Phoenix): 21 hospitals
Texas Health Resources (Arlington): 11 hospitals
Centura Health (Englewood, Colo.): 9 hospitals
Since 2005, HIMSS Analytics' EMR Adoption Model has tracked electronic medical record adoption in hospitals and health systems throughout the country. The eight-stage model cumulates with stage 7, in which paper records are no longer used. Stage 7 organizations are also able to share patient information electronically and have advanced data analytics capabilities.
