Sports teams and digital health? It's not as unlikely a pairing as it may appear at first glance.
Many athletes and sports teams have started using wearables and biometric sensors to track body movement and vital signs while training to track athletes' physical fitness and performance.
Now, the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team has partnered with advertising agency R/GA to launch an accelerator focused on the intersection of sports, technology, entertainment and media, reports mobihealthnews.
The three-month accelerator recently announced its first class with 10 startups, two of which are centered on digital health, according to the report. The first is FocusMotion, which uses wearables to monitor athletes' movement. The data can then be analyzed to pinpoint when athletes are overtraining or have poor form.
The second digital health startup is Kinduct, a health and fitness data management platform for teams and healthcare organizations to offer medical education and exercise prescription tools.
Each startup in the Dodgers' accelerator will receive $120,000 in funding and gain access to sports industry partnerships, distribution channels and other support sources, according to the report.
