Florida medical group files for bankruptcy

Aventura, Fla.-based Advanced Neuro Spine Institute, a medical group specializing in neurology, neurosurgery and pain management, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Wednesday.

ANSI, which has offices across South Florida in Aventura, Kendall, Hialeah, Fort Lauderdale and Fort Pierce, said in its bankruptcy petition that it has no more than $50,000 in assets. The medical group said it has at least 100 creditors and liabilities of up to $10 million.

In its bankruptcy petition, ANSI listed creditors who have the largest unsecured claims against the medical group. According to the petition, ANSI owes about $3.2 million to City National Bank of Florida and $1.5 million to the Internal Revenue Service, an amount ANSI has disputed.

ANSI disclosed in its bankruptcy petition that Miami Neurological Institute, which does business as Advanced Neuro Spine Institute, has also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

ANSI did not immediately respond to Becker's request for comment.
